HER FATE

She walked alone at the unearthly hour, stealthily, along the winding paths, afraid that she could be caught, yet her heart urging on. She finally reached the park, reminiscing their long walks, as she sat on a cold bench, wrapping her grey sweater closer. The moon looked down on her, as if getting a confirmation, "yes, he will come" she whispered, "he has a promise to keep." And the moon smiled in agreement, for yes, he was here, with his smile intact, as if it had never faded away. He sat down beside her, and her face finally lit up, lit up, after a whole year, as her tear swollen eyes gleamed at him. They sat with hands intertwined, none mustering to speak, and when the sun's first rays touched her, she realised it was already dawn. He let go of her hand and got up, his smile never waning, her sunken face silently pleaded with him, but she knew he was not to be.
